Water Rates & Policies
Listed below, you will find the City of Decatur current water rates and policies. If you do not find the information you need, please contact our office and we will provide it for you.
To apply for new water service, you must come in and fill out a form. Be prepared to give current and correct mailing address, an emergency name and phone number, place of employment and other general information. You must also provide a current photo ID. A $100 deposit is required, and must be paid in cash, check, or money order. We do not accept cards at this time. If you had a previous account with us that is past due, it must be paid in full.
After the application information and deposit is obtained, the water personnel will make every possible attempt to supply same day service. Someone has to be present at the home or business when we turn the water on. If the meter keeps running, we will automatically turn it back off. If there is a problem incurred at time of turn on, we will make every attempt possible to offer same day service, if the problem is corrected and we are notified within a reasonable time period. Weather conditions such as snow, and ice or emergency situations can sometimes prohibit daily operations. We will turn on at the earliest opportunity. City and Water personnel can not work on private lines.
If your water has been shut off due to a past due bill, it is $35 to reconnect during normal busines hours. It is $75 to reconnect during a weekend, holiday, or after hours.

If you live within the city limits, trash service is mandatory and it is charged on your bill. Days of route pickups are on Thursdays, unless otherwise specified on the bill. You must have your trash set out by 6:30 am. If you have any issues with the trash service please call the Waste Management Customer Service number at 800-607-9509.
You may pay your water bill either by phone, or online. To pay online, click the following link: Softtelpay. You may also call 855-483-5729 to pay by phone. Be sure to have your account number when paying. There is a convenience Fee for paying online or by phone and the fee schedule is as follows:
