It is encouraging to see how the community has come together for this event, the amount of donations that has filtered in is amazing. But the amazing thing to see through all of this is the love that has poured in; the hard work; the tiredness that has exhausted each and everyone, the ideas of how to help that have floated around the community! This is a strong community in so many ways! Decatur is letting her light shine through all that have donated, volunteered, and have worked endless hours to help those who have a need. 05/28/2024 While people across the United States were celebrating Memorial day weekend by decorating the graves of their lossed loved ones and firing up the grill to spend fellowship time with family and friends, others were kicking off the summer weekend with camping, hiking, or doing some other favorite activity with their loved ones. However, those in Northwest Arkansas, and more locally, in Decatur Arkansas, were cleaning up after a disasterous tornado wiped out many family homes early on Sunday morning. We understand that many are without clothing, no food, no shelter, no medicines, and even pets. We have developed this page to put as much information out there and resources that will help as many of those families as we can. This is a time when the community is pulling together in unity, and we are so thankful for all!
Here are some resources that are currently available:
The Red Cross is set up in a mobile unit as of Tuesday, May 28th at the Decatur First Baptist Church. They are offering cleanup resources. However if you call 1-800-733-2767, they do have other resources such as medical that they can help you with. The Red Cross is also sending out a mobile unit to the hardest hit areas of Decatur. The Red Cross will be here as long as the community needs them.
This evening, around 5:30 pm May 28th, the Salvation Army will be here with hot meals, clothing, and cleanup supplies. They will be traveling out to the hardest hit areas first, but be on the look out for them. They will be here as long as the community needs them.
There are baby wipes, sports drinks, and water available at City Hall. You can stop in during our offices hours of 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and pick some up.
