Council

The City of Decatur City Council acts as the legislative branch of our government, as well as its policy-making body. The Council looks to the city's goals, major projects and infrastructure improvements ranging from community growth to land use to finances and strategic planning. The Council's goal is to do the very best to represent their constituents after they've seen to the needs of the city as a whole.

The council meets the second Monday ever each month unless otherwise posted. For 2026 those dates are:

April 13th

May 11th

June 8th

July 13th

August 10th

September 9th

October 12th

November 9th

December 14th

If you are wanting to run for council check out the map below to see what ward you would be in. Each ward has 2 seats. The next election for council members is 2026, and then again in 2028. the next Mayor elections will be 2026, and the next City Clerk election will be 2026, and then again in 2028.
