Celebrating 115 years
Begins: 10/25/2025 - 4:00 pm
Ends: 10/25/2025
The City of Decatur, and the Decatur Historical Commission would like to invite all to come help celebrate the Depot turning 115 years old this month. The KCS depot was originally built in 1893. It burnt down in 1908, and was rebuilt in 1910. There are not many depots still standing today, but this one has been restored and made into a musuem. The importance of this depot brought families together weather they were traveling to Decatur, or leaving Decatur. For those who settled the area and farmed in produce, they had a way to ship their harvest to different parts of the nation. Seamstresses received their sewing machines, and other packages came through the shipment done by trains. Trains have always played an important role in commerce and in the ordinary life of a person. Communities were built around depots and the railroad just as they were built around a river.
We are honored to still have this historical building still amongst us today, and visiting the musuem is like stepping back in the past.
The birthday party will be held on Saturday, October 25th
