JOB OPENINGS:

Librarian Part-time Position Available:

Approximately 20 hours / week

Supervisor: Library Board and City of Decatur Administration

General Purpose:

Administer the policies and procedures of the library with service to the public as its main goal. Performs administrative work required to keep official records and provide administrative support to the library board.

Supervision Exercised:

  • Supervision and training of volunteers in circulation and other areas
  • Evaluates volunteers

Minimum Qualificatons:

  • High School Diploma
  • General library experience

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of library practices, computers, and business office practices
  • Skill in operation and maintenance of library equipment
  • Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public, to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to deal with stressful situations

  • Procures materials, supplies, books and periodicals to build and maintain a timely and relevant collection
  • Preparation of books for circulation including cataloging, sending out overdue notices, assessing fines and correctly shelving books on a timely and refular basis
  • Organizing resources in an accessible way
  • Collection maintenance including weeding
  • Troubleshooting the cataloging system and monitoring public access computers
  • assisting patrons with locating materials or answering questions as needed; providing reader advisory and information services to the public; provide positive, quality customer experience.
  • Attends library board meetings
  • Gives monthly report to the libary board to include current progress and future nees
  • Carries out library board policies and recommends changes
  • Maintains an inventory of books, office supplies, materials and records
  • Other library duties as assigned by the library board
